Max Power is offering Boeing aircraft reused as private residences. Below is an illustration of a B-737 reused as a home. The aircraft are mounted on a steel column and bearing so the whole airplane weathervanes, pointing into the wind.
The interior of each aircraft is finished to the owners specs. You can have access to the wings and we can deck them with handrails. Our goal is to share aviation with those who understand and appreciate it. Each type of aircraft has a fixed amount of square feet inside and our goal is to help you enjoy it any way we can.

Re: Boeing aircraft reused as private residences.
Sun, March 1, 2009 - 7:22 PMThat's very cool. But I'm wondering what it would be like in a blustery storm, with the wind changing direction and force. Could be quite a ride! -

Re: Boeing aircraft reused as private residences.
Sun, March 1, 2009 - 10:39 PMFrom the site:
The airplane is bolted to the outer ring of an 8' diameter bearing. The steel column is bolted to the inside ring.
As an owner, you will have control of a joystick that runs a motor which turns the gear on the inner ring enabling you to rotate the airplane as you wish. You can rotate the airplane to get your favorite view. You can lock it in place if you like. You have the same control over the airplane that a crane operator has over his crane.
and:
We modify the wings so they no longer provide lift. The wing in the foreground of the above picture has not yet been modified. To destroy the lift producing ability of the wing, we have:
1. Removed the leading edge flaps
2. Removed the leading edge slats,
3. Removed the trailing edge flaps,
4. Placed a small fence type airflow disrupter at the forward edge of the wing
5. Covered the top of the wing with anti-skid paint.
We guarantee the aircraft will no longer fly.
Also the dates on this website are from 2003; I wonder if this project ever got off the ground? (sorry, I couldn't resist!) -

Re: Boeing aircraft reused as private residences.
Sun, March 29, 2009 - 12:10 AMPeople tend to feel too closed in when on airplanes. They probably didn't get many people who would actually want to make an airplane their home. That's what I'm thinking now. It is a sort of cool idea, but in practicality it doesn't seem like a home people would want to spend a lot of time in.
