Hey, I'm currently homeless and unemployed.
Is there anything going on up in Northern California?
Anyone need a trimmer this season?

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 11:02 PMThere's got to be legal, licensed operations up there that need help... At least that's what I would think. I could possibly be wrong. -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 10:46 PMState legal not Federal. Not something you can walk into. The whole phenomenon that is northern CA has been learning and growing for decades. I know people but would never divulge any more than that on here. Even that is saying to much really. The best thing to do is move there and establish your own and hope noone narcs on you for stepping on their biznatch. Silence is golden. Secrecy the code and best policy. Keep a low profile and know the right people. I'm out of that and have been for a long time. I still know people but I stay out of it now. The risk is too high. The penalties beyond rediculous. People are still getting in trouble on a regular basis. It's highly fucked up. I cherish my freedom too much. My conscience too. In a perfect world that would be my chosen profession. There's actually a school for people that are interested in starting their own grows and it is very in depth apparently. I even read about it in the paper and have a couple friends that may take the course. That would most def be a prime certification to have under your belt. lol I forget what it's called and where it's taught. Did anyone else read about this in the paper or see the story on the news? -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 7:06 AM}} The best thing to do is move there and establish your own
Fuck that shit! Don't come up here and grow weed. That's the last thing we need is more influx of greedy fucking pot growers moving in, driving up land prices, contributing to the atmosphere of secrecy and paranoia, using up more wild water in the mountains, leaving plastic bags, fertilizer bottles and irrigation supplies all over the woods, importing a bunch of dumb ass trimmers, making it less safe to hike around in the woods and then leaving with the money. The green rush is fucking this county up just like it all rushes fuck up the areas they happen in. The sooner it all falls apart the better, and it will, because people are too greedy. Do something constructive with your time for satansake... There are a lot of jobs to do out there or waiting to be created. People can barely find a decent carpenter up here. Thank goodness for the Mexican community or nothing would ever get done! They're all growing or trimming or whatever. Growing weed for a bunch of fucking couch potatoes in LA or wherever is just creating an artificial economy. What happens when it all disappears? What are all those people hooked on easy money going to do after that? especially the kids that aren't accumulating many useful skills.
}} My conscience too.\
huh?
}} In a perfect world that would be my chosen profession.
Even if it was only worth 30 or 40 bucks a pound and you had to grow acres of the shit to make any money? That's what'll happen if it's legalized. The sooner the better I say. Then all those would be hemp farmers will just have to make crank or something, because they're not going to buy a farm and live it debt getting up early every morning to tend their acres of hemp. Fuck the dope industry. And don't tell me it brings money into the area. Fuck money. That reflects position reflects shitty values. I'd rather live in a poor area where people have to be creative and strive to make money in interesting ways than in this bullshit. It's like gentrification of a wierd kind. I live here and it sucks. Everyone who's not in it has complaints about the effects it has on their lives which aren't seen or are ignored by the people involved in the industry.
Legalize the crap so we can get on with real life. -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 9:36 AMI'm all for legalizing it too. The politics of it all, and the money, are what keep the status quo the same. It's a very controversial subject for sure. I'm fascinated by the pros and cons information / statistics / etc....

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 9:54 AM>>>I live here and it sucks.
--->If you don't like where you live maybe it's time to move.
Well, you'd probably rather try to control other people's actions and force them to create a place for you that is asthetically pleasing rather than taking responsiblitiy for your own asthetics and creating/finding a place where you are happy.
It's so much easier to make others do it for you. Then you have someone to blame if it still sucks, lol. -

the guy just doesn't want a next-door neighbor that begins a conversation with "i'm homeless and unemployed, will somebody give me a job growing dope" on a public internet site. can't blame him. you have no common sense. -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 11:31 AMIf it's necessary, then that would definately be my recommendation...
You took a word I used (trimming) and after applying your biases, interpreted that to me I wanted to move up there and open up my own operation.
In fact, what I was actually hoping to do was to work hard for a few months to earn enough money to travel to/visit India and Italy before I start school. Because that's really my goal... Believe it or not my goal is not to move up North and build a huge pot farm.... It's to move to SF and finish my BS degree in business.
Just to be clear, I was just looking for work trimming. I know and love alot of people on tribe and I thought that through my network on tribe, either one of my friends might know of something, or maybe someone would see my ad and notice a connection to me through one of my friends and after checking into my references, decide to talk to me about an opportunity.
And there's no need for the secret squirrel paranoia bullshit. It's no secret there are legal, licensed operations up there, and once you get a license you really can't hide from the federal government. If they want to cause problems they are going to, whether I'm there or not, lol.
Actually, the best way to beat the feds on this is to operate openly and publically for as long as possible, and after doing that for a significant period of time they wont be able to cause any more problems.
In any event, I wasn't counting on a bunch of bigots and paranoids ganging up on me in a forum that has for so long been a source of such love and creativity and inspiration. I guess that's just an indication of how tribe has gone down the toilet over the last few years. It doesn't suprise me though, it's even happening like that at Burning Man.
So just be cool... Unless you're just a jerk. In which case you can lick my dirty asshole. -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 2:09 PMI suggested moving there and starting your own operation. I didnt say that's what you were doing. And believe it or not, even the licensed orgs have problems. If I was going to do it I would remain unlicensed and secret. Unless someone showed me it was better the other way. It's a fact that the feds are still arresting people and ruining peoples lives over this shit. It sucks.

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 8:52 AMIt actually makes sense,... in a "non-traditional" way.
For those of us who respect Mother, & embrace the non traditional lifestyle of not perpetuating abuse of Mother nature & pollution of our home/earth.
It saddens me to no end to hear such negaivity being spewed forth here in this forum.
Please bring your focus back to living as one "with" nature, & not against her.
Blessed be!

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 12:22 PMBecause I'm told there are alot of people who live a nomadic lifestyle, living in non-traditional modes of housing like full time tenting or RVing, sharing living quarters, etc. Working and contibuting where they can as they move around.
My idea is to work and attend school for a few months, and travel abroad for a a few months... And to do that every year until I'm finished with my degree. I'm not sure if I'm likely to be able to do that or not but it's an idea I'm entertaining.
I think it would be wonderful to live in my tent with a partner (and maybe my pooch) for a few months a year while contributing to the harvest effort while earning money for school and travel. Then when the harvest is over I can fold up my home, strap it to the back of my motorcycle, and move on.
Sounds pretty non-traditional to me :) -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 9:18 AMI get that you're looking to support a non-traditional lifestyle, but what does that have to do with a tribe for non-traditional housing?
Yes, there are a lot of people who life a nomadic lifestyle, yes there are a lot of transient workers in Humboldt and Mendocino during a particular time of year. I have lived in a tent in Mendocino before for eight months, but for reasons other than to contribute to the harvest "effort". And I loved it.
What I am saying is that there are other tribes that may be more appropriate for this thread, such as "Emerald Triangle" or other tribes that are specifically about Humboldt and Mendocino rather than reinterpreting the topic of this particular tribe. This is constructive feedback, not negativity. -
-
Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 11:13 PMOr negativity in the guise of constructive feedback. It's ONE thread. The anal strickness of certain tribes is pathetic. I'd like to think this tribe isnt one of those kind of tribes. We all may or may not appreciate this thread but I dont see a need to go totalitarian on it. Reminds me of Bush calling other people "terrorists." Quite sad / rediculous. -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 8:29 AMRead into my posts whatever you will.
If anyone is interested in learning more about non-traditional housing, I can list a few places to check out in Mendocino and Lake counties that have quality demonstrations of unconventional structures. Maybe even share a contact for work in building them. There's a shit-ton of activism and momentum in the field of non-traditional housing here, especially in Mendocino. I can't claim to know anything about Humboldt county because I haven't lived there.
If anyone is interested in trimming, you really gotta just move there and know someone.
Signed,
Mello (not a paranoid earth-hating vibe-killer) -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 10:14 AMI have plenty to say, but I'm not going to feed this thread anymore fuel, since I agree that this is not the place for this discussion. I don't hate any of you (wouldn't know you well enough to anyway), my intensity is simply a reflection of the degree to which I see this issue affecting my county in the context of what I value and I'm not about to pull any punches when the subject comes up because I might spoil someones fun. It's not "all good" up here... BTW, I have recently started a group, before seeing this thread, for people who don't grow, or trim, etc... pot. I don't expect to have many members!:) There's only two of us so far, and we're married!

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 10:20 AMWell I don't grow pot... And I don't intend to.... At least not until well after I'm retired.
But I don't have anything against those who do.
It sounds to me like your complaints about pot growers have little to do with growing pot and everything to do with crappy people... And you will have crappy people regardless if there is pot involved or not.
As a matter of fact, some of the most beautiful people I've ever known were smokers.... -

Re: What's happening in Humboldt/Mendacino County?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 8:18 AMpssh...when i lived there we always said "they take our buds and leave their bugs" in reference to the "kids" who would come in during harvest and get "jobs" trimming. It's true you gotta know people to get in.
BTW you are aware harvest is another 4 - 5 months away; for the earliest you're looking at late-Sept. or Oct.? Unless your school is real lenient on tardiness, or you're going to U of H.
HOWEVER, having said all that, it's REAL easy to get a gig as a care provider for someone who is has a compassionate use prescription. Compensations vary.
