Hi everyone, i am going to build a treehouse soon with scrap lumber. I am wanting to know what are your suggestions? Is there any tree better than others to use when building one? I havent built one since i was a kid, and this one is going to be much much better, complete with a roof, solar power, windows and a level floor. Anyone whose done this before is encouraged to reply, any thoughts and suggestions are welcome too.

Wed, February 25, 2009 - 1:21 AMYES! I have a suggestion that might help. I built a few tree houses and in my experience, if your tree is strait and tall, you can build your house on the ground, around the tree (hugging it, on springs and rollers) and then using a pully system, lift the first level or platform from the ground to the desired hight. This topic is exciting! Plus, you don't have to harm the tree by cutting into it or spiking.

Fri, March 20, 2009 - 5:36 PMWe had a tree house competition locally and they were using slings made from something like, if not Kevlar. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it out to see any of them, but I hear that it was very impressive and no fasteners could be attached to the trees. It was at the Botanical Gardens of Norfolk, Virginia.

Mon, March 23, 2009 - 3:40 PMWe have one built up in an old coastal oak in the backyard. And though it isn't a structured walled house per se it is a great platform with a comfy futon, several chairs, speakers a small desk, shade cover.
The view is great and when it gets really warm here in Palo Alto the breeze up there can't be beat.
