I was wondering if anyone has or does live in a Pacific Dome?....ive spent a weekend in one, and it was spectacular being inside the dome space. I also love yurts, but the dome is very appealing to me..
Im curious to hear of others experiences with these great dwellings

Made a half-scale one ages ago, for a backyard chill space. Very strange experience; learned a *lot* about covering materials, tube joints, etc. As for full size I know a guy who lives in a weird structure that's about 3/4 dome, attached to the back end of a 'traditional' tract house. Interesting walking from rectangular 'normal' space into the open-vaulted dome space. My observation re: domes is that not many people utilize the space well; something other than a traditional sliceof-pie rooms might be better suited to the space; not sure what but I'd encourage experimentation, maybe with a cardboard model.

Addendum: talked to a friend who knows Stewart Brand, aka the '60s biggest advocate of dome homes. He said that Stewart has repudiated his love of domes primarily because of their tendency to leak but also because of their poor fit with 'normal' furniture, which tends to be square or rectangular.

Back in the 70's and 80's I knew Many folks in WA and OR that had built and were living in Geodezic - (spelling ?) Domes.
    Probably still are...
Have also seen three larger churches (and a couple of smaller ones) that utilized this concept.
There are books out there that explain how to build them and the whys and where fors about building and living in domes.

Poorly utilized space seems to be common... There are ways around that if you plan ahead and do your research.

I shared one with several people for a few months. Hammocks hanging from the frame was a great idea for using space. My only complaint was how poor the insulation was for during the hot hot days and for keeping heat in during the cool fall nights night.

I also knew a custom carpenter that has a dome. He did an excellent job with utilizing the space effectively, too bad I don't have any pictures of the place to share or able to describe it in detail.

I have experienced these two temporature differences in my friends Dome...it doesnt take them long to cool right down.... so a wood stove would be a must...the hammocks sounds really cool,
