Thu, February 28, 2008 - 6:33 AMAgreed...I remember something similar in one of the earth shelter books Rob Roy I think with his log -end walls used glass bottles instead of log end in the cement. Always seemed like a great idea to me, so connecting and open. In Korea I remember people breaking glass bottles and setting them in the top of cement walls like barbed wire for the opposite effect. Imagine the light display inside such a glorious light sculpture. Unfortunately probably only suitable for moderate or temperate climates... -

Re: Have you all seen this...
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 11:34 AMive heard about the broken glass set in cement before.... ive heard some say its to protect against intruders and to keep people off the weak rooftops, and ive also heard its to keep pesky birsds away... but it makes the roof tops and walls glisten really beautifully...

Re: Have you all seen this...
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 9:25 PMMany, many moons ago my dad was prime contractor for a prototype cottage that would have become one of a few dozen for a hotel that he built on Oahu (IIRC). I got to see this thing when I was a wee lad; a strange shell-like affair, very similar to this one, but only one story tall. It had numerous problems, most notably the way sound carried thruout the thing: the bathroom acted like an amplifier and a fart could be heard thruout the house, heh. Other problems included the way heat moved when forced air ventilation was used and the 'linear' nature of the thing; i.e. it was a long tube that had been rolled up, sorta like a cinnamon roll. Bottom line: with great fanfare and hoopla the thing was pushed off of a cliff with a big-ass bulldozer and that was the end of that. In the end they built nice wooden bungalows. -

Sun, March 2, 2008 - 10:33 AMThat was an amusing story Ed.
It's just too bad they had to waste all the building materials that way though in the end.
