Did this rockwall for my sister's house.
Materials were cheap. A load of peagravel was 200 dollars. I used a double layer of that fabric to stop weeds underneath the gravel. I handstacked the rocks without morter. The gravel helps lock them into place. Growing tree roots made pouring a footing and mortering the stones together impracticle. Freestacked if something moves and falls over, one can simply restack it. A friend gave me the tip that the wall will look better if it angles back 15 degrees. Also, to use the bigger rocks on the bottem.
